A List of Symphonies by Franz Schubert     Numbering Issues in Schubert's Symphonies

Because several of Schubert's symphonies were found and cataloged after his death,
the numbering of the last six symphonies has been inconsistent for a long time.  Below
is the numbering that is most accepted today...

          Symphony No. 1 in D major, D. 82  (1813)    @ age 16

       Symphony No. 2 in B-flat major, D. 125 (1814–1815)

       Symphony No. 3 in D major, D. 200 (1815)   @ Age 18 - The first very good symphony

       Symphony No. 4 in C minor, D. 417 "Tragic" (1816)  Influenced by Beethoven's Symphony No. 5

       Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major, D. 485 (1816)

       Symphony No. 6 in C major, D. 589 " Little C major" (1817–1818)

       Symphony No. 7 in E major, D. 729  (1821 - unfinished  -  finished by other composers)

Note:  There are very good performances of Schubert's first seven symphonies on YouTube
by the hr-synfonieorchester  (Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra) conducted by
                 Andrés Orozco-Estrada.
